Dentist Near NC State

Convenient Access from NC State

Students, faculty and staff who want a dentist near NC State can reach Cameron Village Dentistry in about 13 minutes on foot from the Memorial Belltower. Our Raleigh office sits on Smallwood Drive, across the street from the Village District shopping center and a short way north of Main Campus, and the same trip takes roughly 3 minutes by car. We practice integrative, whole-health dentistry, so we look for the root cause of a problem and how your mouth affects the rest of your body.

Start at the Belltower, the granite World War I memorial at the Hillsborough Street entrance, and leave by Watauga Club Drive. Turn onto Pullen Road and follow it north through two roundabouts until it becomes Oberlin Road. Stay on Oberlin Road heading north, then turn right onto Smallwood Drive. Walkers cover about 0.6 mile, and drivers travel about 0.7 mile.

You will find us at 2104 Smallwood Dr, Raleigh, NC 27605, and you can open our office on Google Maps to save the pin on your phone. If you rent off campus, our Boylan Heights and Fairmont pages describe the trip from those neighborhoods. No car? GoRaleigh Route 16 stops at Oberlin Road and Smallwood Drive, steps from our door.

A Campus-Close Practice for the Wolfpack Community

NC State enrolls more than 40,000 students, and many of them arrive from out of state. That puts a lot of people in Raleigh who are far from the dentist they grew up with. A cracked tooth during midterms should not have to wait for a flight home. Having a dental office you can walk to from the Belltower takes that worry off the list.

The university also employs more than 10,000 faculty and staff. Many of them work in buildings along Hillsborough Street, at Talley Student Union on Cates Avenue, or near Reynolds Coliseum. A cleaning or a filling at an office this close fits into a long lunch more easily than a trip across Wake County. You can be back at your desk or your lab without a long drive.

The neighborhood around campus has its own landmarks worth knowing. Pullen Park, founded in 1887 and the oldest public park in North Carolina, sits right beside Main Campus between Western Boulevard and Hillsborough Street. The East Coast Greenway runs through the park, and Pullen Road links the park side of campus to the north side. That same road is the first leg of your trip to our office.

The Belltower makes an easy meeting point. The 115-foot granite tower was formally dedicated on November 11, 1949, and it glows red for veterans' holidays and Wolfpack achievements. It is also the starting line for the student-run Krispy Kreme Challenge each year. On any of those days, our front door is a short walk away.

The university has deep roots in the city. The General Assembly founded it on March 7, 1887, as the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts, and its first 72 students arrived in 1889. Today the campus covers 2,099 acres, counting Centennial Campus to the south. We are glad to care for people from every corner of that footprint.

Our block has another campus connection. NC State's own libraries list Oberlin Regional Library on Clark Avenue as the closest Wake County Public Library branch to campus. That branch sits in the Village District, about 0.3 mile from our office. A study session there and a cleaning here can share the same afternoon.

How Campus Routines Affect Teeth at NC State

College years bring new routines, and teeth often feel the change first. Late nights, energy drinks, coffee refills and snacking between classes all raise the odds of decay along the gumline. Students who skip checkups for a year or two can find that a small cavity has grown into a bigger repair. A steady schedule of cleanings catches those changes while they are still simple to fix.

Jaw clenching often surfaces in busy academic seasons too. Exam stress, long hours at a laptop and poor sleep can all show up as sore jaw muscles or worn tooth edges. Dr. Turner looks at those signs in context rather than treating the tooth alone. That root-cause view is the heart of how our practice works.

Getting across campus has its own quirks. Railroad tracks divide North Campus from Central Campus, and people cross at the Free Expression Tunnel, an underpass at Dan Allen Drive, or the bridge on Pullen Road. Students who live on the Central or South side can use the Pullen Road crossing on the way to a checkup. From there, Oberlin Road leads straight north to Smallwood Drive.

Faculty and staff have different concerns, from older fillings that need replacing to straightening teeth that shifted over the years. Our office uses digital x-rays, which use low radiation, so routine imaging stays low-dose. Regular cleanings and exams give us a baseline that makes later decisions easier for everyone at NC State who sees us.

Services From a Dentist Near NC State

Graduate students and young professionals often want straighter teeth before job interviews or a defense. New patients receive a complimentary CandidPro® consultation to see whether aligners suit their goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is Cameron Village Dentistry from NC State, and how do I get there?

From the Memorial Belltower, our office is about 0.6 mile and 13 minutes on foot, or about 0.7 mile and 3 minutes by car. Drivers follow Pullen Road north through two roundabouts, continue on Oberlin Road, then turn onto Smallwood Drive. That short trip makes us a practical dentist near NC State for people without a car.

What should an out-of-state NC State student do about a dental emergency in Raleigh?

Call our office first and describe what happened. New patients can book the $39 Emergency Exam & X-Ray, and we offer same-day appointments whenever possible. That visit tells you what the problem is and how urgent it is. You can then decide whether to treat it here or wait for a trip home.

Does Dr. Turner have a personal connection to NC State?

Yes. Dr. William Turner IV earned his MS in physiology from NC State University. He also holds a biology degree from Hampden-Sydney College and a DMD from Tufts. A Raleigh native, he acquired Cameron Village Dentistry in 2022 and brings a whole-health, root-cause approach to every patient from campus and beyond.

What are the office hours for NC State faculty and staff planning a visit?

We are open Monday through Thursday from 8 AM to 4 PM and Friday from 8 AM to 2 PM. The office is closed on Saturday and Sunday. Because the drive from campus is about 3 minutes, many employees can schedule a cleaning around a lunch break or the start of a workday.

How can a graduate student without dental insurance budget for checkups?

Our in-house membership plans are built for patients without insurance. The Individual plan costs $625 per year and covers two cleanings, two exams, x-rays and one emergency exam. It also includes 10% off additional non-cosmetic treatment. Financing through Cherry, CareCredit and Sunbit can spread out the cost of larger care.
