We are an integrative practice that treats your mouth as part of your whole body and works to find the root cause of every problem.
Begin at the Raleigh Little Theatre and Rose Garden, 301 Pogue Street, and make your way out to Everett Avenue. Dentistry That Fits Fairmont's Campus-Side Life
When the North Carolina State Fair moved west of Blue Ridge Road in 1926, its old grounds became Fairmont. The neighborhood was platted that same year, and the fair's legacy lives on in its name and in street names that honor fair officials. In other words, the history is written right on the street signs.
The plat kept most of the old oval racetrack. Clark Avenue forms the straight south edge, while Pogue and Gardner streets trace the curve at the top. The City bought the horseshoe-shaped section of the track in 1926, and today the Raleigh Little Theatre, its amphitheatre and the Rose Garden fill it.
The 1926 plan laid out more than 500 lots, each 30 feet wide, but buyers built on double or triple lots. That choice gave the neighborhood a far roomier feel than its plat suggests. The first houses went up in the late 1920s and early 1930s for office workers, business owners, government employees and State College faculty, and smaller homes filled in after the Depression along Stafford, Everett, Kilgore, Vanderbilt and Brooks avenues and Dixie Trail.
Fairmont belongs to the West Raleigh Historic District, which joined the National Register on December 18, 2003, and covers about 332 acres. Most of its homes are one-story houses from the 1930s through the 1950s. The district's growth has always been tied to NC State, founded in 1887 as the North Carolina College of Agricultural and Mechanic Arts, and many residents today are NC State faculty and students.
Transportation shaped the area early. Before 1910 a streetcar line ran west along Hillsborough Street to the college, and that street still forms the south edge of the historic district, lined with churches and commercial buildings. Today the drive to our office skips Hillsborough Street entirely and uses quiet residential blocks instead.
Two smaller landmarks round out the picture. Fairmont Methodist Church at 2501 Clark Ave is a Gothic Revival brick building from about 1950, designed by a Duke architecture professor, with an education wing added in 1957-58. Chamberlain Park at 500 Chamberlain St dates to 1928 and fits a playground and a basketball court into 1.4 acres.
The theatre complex is the neighborhood's front porch. Raleigh Little Theatre got its start in 1935-36, and its WPA-built amphitheatre, finished in 1939, seats about 2,000 people. Behind it, the City-owned Rose Garden holds sixty rose beds and is one of three accredited rose gardens in North Carolina.
Dental Tips for Fairmont Students, Faculty and Families
An academic calendar shapes life here. Semesters, exams and grading periods leave little room for long errands, so a dentist on the other side of Oberlin Road is a real advantage. You can finish a cleaning and be back near campus well before the next class or meeting.
Our hours suit early risers. We open at 8 AM every weekday, stay until 4 PM Monday through Thursday and close at 2 PM on Friday. We do not see patients on weekends, so many campus patients book a first-thing slot before their day gets busy.
Plenty of adults wish they had straightened their teeth years ago. Clear aligners make that possible without brackets, and the trays come out for meals and lectures alike. New patients can book a complimentary CandidPro® consultation to see whether aligners fit their bite and goals.
Stress shows up in the jaw as often as anywhere else. Clenching or grinding during a heavy work season can leave teeth worn and jaw muscles sore, and we look for those signs at every exam. Our intraoral scanners capture a detailed 3D model of your teeth without messy impression trays, which helps us track wear over time.
Accidents happen on the court and the bike path too. A chipped front tooth can often be repaired with tooth-colored bonding, and a sudden toothache gets a prompt look. We treat each problem with the same whole-health lens, asking what caused it so it is less likely to come back.
