Convenient Access from Method
Families who want a dentist near Method can reach Cameron Village Dentistry in about 7 minutes, a short drive east across Raleigh. Our whole-health office sits on Smallwood Drive, directly across the street from the Village District shopping center, which was called Cameron Village until 2021. The whole trip stays on city streets, so nobody from the neighborhood has to merge onto the Beltline.
Start at the community park at 514 Method Road and follow that road a short way north to Beryl Road heading east. Beryl Road ends at Hillsborough Street, which carries you east through its run of roundabouts until a left turn north onto Pogue Street. Everett Avenue then runs east to a quick hop on Oberlin Road and a right onto Smallwood Drive, where our office sits between Oberlin Road and Daniels Street at 2104 Smallwood Dr, Raleigh, NC 27605. Plan on roughly 7 minutes for the 2.3-mile drive, or open our office in Google Maps for turn-by-turn directions.
A few familiar sights frame the start of the drive. St. James AME Church, the 1923 brick sanctuary, anchors the historic core beside the park, and the I-440 Beltline traces the western edge of that district behind you. Meredith College sits about half a mile away at 3800 Hillsborough Street. Neighbors a little farther east can read our pages for University Park and Fairmont.
A Dental Home Rooted in Method’s Story
Method has a long memory. In 1872, half-brothers Jesse Mason and Isaac O'Kelly bought 69 acres outside Raleigh and sold lots to newly freed Black families. Outsiders used names like Slab Town and Planktown, while residents chose Masonville and later Method Village, a name introduced by Berry O'Kelly. Born enslaved, O'Kelly became a prominent businessman and philanthropist, bought the Woods general store and served as the village's first postmaster.
By 1900 the village had two stops on the Norfolk and Southern Railroad. In 2017, community advocacy persuaded NCDOT to redraw I-440 widening plans that threatened the old school grounds. Today the community center at the park carries the names of Berry O'Kelly and Harveleigh Monte Rivera White.
The City of Raleigh annexed Method in 1960, and in 2017 the old institutional heart of the community, 8.4 acres along Method Road, joined the National Register as the Berry O'Kelly Historic District. Neighbors here care about continuity, and so do we. A dental office that serves a place like this should know patients by name and follow them through the years, from a first cleaning to a crown decades later.
That long view shapes how we work. Cameron Village Dentistry is an integrative practice, which means we look for the root cause of a problem instead of only treating the symptom in front of us. We also pay attention to how oral health ties into sleep, breathing, diet and overall wellness. For households with several generations under one roof, that makes one office a sensible home for everybody.
Ball Fields, Pickleball and Protecting Method Smiles
Method Community Park works like the neighborhood's shared backyard. Its 8.3 acres hold a youth baseball field, an outdoor basketball court, six lighted pickleball courts, a multipurpose field, a gym inside the community center and a Boundless Playground. That much activity brings flying balls, swinging paddles and the occasional collision under the rim.
A mouthguard is one of the simplest habits for young ballplayers, and it takes seconds to put in before a game. Adults on the pickleball courts can take the same precaution when games turn competitive. If a tooth chips or loosens anyway, call our office right away, because we offer same-day appointments whenever possible.
Many small injuries have simple fixes. A chipped edge on a front tooth may respond well to dental bonding, which rebuilds the shape with tooth-colored resin in a single visit. Deeper cracks call for an exam and digital x-rays first, and our low-radiation imaging shows what is happening beneath the surface before we recommend anything.
A checkup for a young athlete looks much like any other visit. We clean the teeth, check how the bite is developing and take digital x-rays when they are due. Parents get a plain summary of what we found and what, if anything, needs attention next. That routine helps us spot a small crack from an old sports bump before it becomes a toothache.
Care From a Dentist Near Method for Every Generation
Emergency Dental Care
A line drive or a hard fall on the court can crack a tooth in a second. New patients can start with our $39 Emergency Exam & X-Ray, which tells us quickly how serious the damage is.
Preventative Dentistry
Routine cleanings and exams catch small issues while they are still easy to manage. Our first appointments begin at 8 AM Monday through Friday, which lets many families fit a visit in before school.
Restorative Dentistry
When decay or a crack goes past the enamel, fillings and crowns bring back strength. We also look at why the tooth failed, whether from grinding, diet or bite, so the repair addresses the cause along with the damage.
Cosmetic Dentistry
Whitening, veneers and bonding can refresh a smile that has dulled or chipped over the years. We plan cosmetic work around healthy gums and a stable bite, so the results look natural on each face.
Dental Implants
A tooth lost to injury or decay can be replaced with an implant anchored in the jaw. CBCT 3D imaging helps us plan placement, and new patients can book a complimentary implant consultation to talk through options.
Every service starts with the same conversation. We listen to what brought you in, review your health history and explain what we see on the screen before any treatment begins. Patients leave knowing their options and what each one involves.
Scheduling around school and practice is simpler with an early start. We open at 8 AM every weekday, close at 4 PM Monday through Thursday and finish at 2 PM on Friday. There are no evening or weekend hours, so most families book a morning slot or a lunchtime visit. Patients also travel in from across Raleigh and from towns such as Cary and Garner.

Frequently Asked Questions
How far is Cameron Village Dentistry from Method, and how do I get there?
The office is about 2.3 miles from Method Community Park, roughly a 7-minute drive. Take Beryl Road to Hillsborough Street, then Pogue Street, Everett Avenue and Oberlin Road to Smallwood Drive. Anyone who wants a dentist near Method without using I-440 will like this route, since it stays on local streets. Rush hour can add a few minutes on Hillsborough Street.
Is there a bus that connects Method with the office?
Yes. GoRaleigh Route 12, which bears the neighborhood's name, stops at Cameron Street and Daniels Street, roughly a tenth of a mile from our office. Route 16 also stops at Oberlin Road and Smallwood Drive, even closer to the door. Riders can plan a checkup around the bus schedule without needing a car.
What should I do if my child chips a tooth playing ball at Method Community Park?
Call the office right away and bring any broken piece with you. New patients can book the $39 Emergency Exam & X-Ray, and the x-ray shows whether the damage reaches deeper than the enamel. The drive from the park takes about 7 minutes, so parents can get a child here soon after the injury.
Is Method part of the City of Raleigh?
Yes. Raleigh annexed the village in 1960, almost nine decades after freed Black families first bought lots there in 1872. The neighborhood sits about 3.25 miles northwest of downtown, in Wake County, and the I-440 Beltline runs along the western edge of its historic district.
Does any part of the Berry O'Kelly school still stand?
Yes, one building survives. The school closed in 1966 with integration and its main building was demolished, but the 1928 Agricultural Building remains as the Pioneers Building inside the park. The City calls the Berry O'Kelly Training School the first fully accredited and largest rural high school for African Americans in North Carolina.
