A Neighborhood Dental Office for Cameron Village
Cameron Village opened in 1949 on a 158-acre tract, and by 1954 it held 40 stores, 38 offices, a movie theater and parking for 1,500 cars. NCpedia describes it as the first shopping center built in the Southeast. More than seventy years later, it remains a daily stop for this part of Raleigh.
On January 28, 2021, owner Regency Centers renamed the center the Village District. The York family, who bought the land in 1947, supported the change, which removed the Cameron family association from the center's name. Plenty of people still say Cameron Village for the whole area, and the old name survives in the historic district, the registered neighborhood association and, yes, our own practice name.
The library inside the center has changed names along with it. Oberlin Regional Library at 1930 Clark Ave was Cameron Village Regional Library until 2021, and NC State's own libraries list it as the closest county branch to campus. That puts one shared public building within reach of both the campus and the surrounding residential streets. You can check its hours and programs on the Oberlin Regional Library page.
The Cameron Village Historic District is the housing half of the original plan. It was designed in 1947, platted in 1949 and listed on the National Register on December 22, 2011. Its streets hold mostly one-story Ranch houses, some architect-designed contemporary homes and a 15-building apartment complex, set on gentle rolling hills under mature trees. Wikipedia calls the development North Carolina's first planned mixed-use development.
That mix of shops, offices and homes is exactly why a nearby dental office makes sense. Residents of the apartments south and east of the district, homeowners on the Ranch-house streets and people who work in the shopping center all live their weekdays within a few blocks. A cleaning can fit between a library visit and lunch, and nobody has to set aside half a day or drive out toward Cary for it.
The location is central in every direction. The historic district lies a little over a mile northwest of the State Capitol and about three-quarters of a mile northeast of NC State University. Oberlin Road runs along its west side, Clark Avenue cuts through the shopping center and Wade Avenue marks the north. Even the local stream gauge carries the name, listed as Pigeon House Creek at Cameron Village at Raleigh.
Making Dental Visits Easy from Cameron Village
Being this close changes how people use a dentist. Instead of waiting for a free afternoon, Cameron Village patients can book a morning slot and walk back to their day afterward. We open at 8 AM Monday through Friday, close at 4 PM Monday through Thursday and finish at 2 PM on Friday. We are closed on weekends.
The bus works well too. GoRaleigh Route 16 stops at Oberlin Rd and Smallwood Dr, a few steps from the office, and Routes 12 and 16 both stop at Cameron St and Daniels St, roughly a tenth of a mile away. Riders coming from across the city can step off and be in the chair within minutes.
Small problems are easier to deal with when the office is around the corner. A chipped edge or a filling that suddenly feels rough rarely waits for a convenient week. New patients can start with our $39 Emergency Exam & X-Ray, and we offer same-day appointments whenever possible.
Our digital x-rays use low radiation and show up on screen right away, so you see the same images we do. Dr. Turner walks through what they show and what can wait. Because we treat the mouth as part of the whole body, we pay attention to habits such as clenching, gum inflammation and diet that may be behind a recurring issue.
Cosmetic goals deserve the same attention as repairs. Many people who walk past our door every week have thought about whitening or reshaping a chipped tooth for years. A short conversation at a routine visit is often all it takes to start.
