Convenient Access from Mordecai

Cameron Village Dentistry is a 7-minute drive west of Mordecai Historic Park, which makes it an easy choice for anyone searching for a dentist near Mordecai. Our Raleigh office faces the Village District shopping center from the north side of Smallwood Drive, a straight run west along Peace Street. We take an integrative, whole-health approach, tracing problems back to their source and weighing how your mouth affects the rest of your body.

From the park at 1 Mimosa Street, follow Mimosa Street to Wake Forest Road and head south. Wake Forest Road flows into North Blount Street, which carries you south to East Peace Street. Turn west on Peace Street, which becomes West Peace Street, and stay on it until Smallwood Drive. Plan on about 2.1 miles; morning and evening rush hour can stretch the time a little.

Care That Respects the Character of Mordecai Place

The neighborhood takes its name from the Mordecai House, the oldest house in Raleigh still standing in its original location. Joel Lane built it around 1785 for his son Henry, and it was enlarged in the 1820s into a Greek Revival home. The house now anchors a 3.2-acre city park that also holds a law office, a kitchen and St. Mark's Chapel. The birthplace of President Andrew Johnson stands on the grounds too.

The homes around the park came later. Beginning in 1916, plantation land south of the house was sold and divided into lots for a new suburb. What grew there became the Mordecai Place Historic District, roughly bounded by North Blount Street, Courtland Drive, Old Wake Forest Road and Mordecai Drive. It was listed on the National Register in February 1998, with a boundary increase in 2000 and 182 contributing buildings.

The city describes it as the most architecturally varied of Raleigh's early-twentieth-century suburbs. A single block can mix Colonial Revival, Craftsman bungalow, Tudor, Dutch Colonial and Spanish Mission styles, with later Cape Cods among them. Pilot Baptist Church, dating to around 1917, and the former Pilot School are among its notable buildings. You can read more on the city's Mordecai Place Historic District page.

Keeping Natural Teeth Strong for the Long Haul

People who choose a century-old house usually plan to stay a while. The same patience pays off in a mouth. Small cracks, worn edges and aging fillings are far easier to fix when they are caught early. Regular exams let us watch those changes and step in before a tooth needs major work.

When repairs are needed, we lean toward tooth-colored materials that blend in. Composite fillings bond to the tooth and match its shade, so a repair on a front tooth stays discreet. For a tooth that needs more coverage, our same-day crowns are designed and placed in one appointment. Intraoral scanners record the tooth digitally, which keeps the process efficient.

Gums are the foundation under every one of those repairs. Gum disease often develops quietly, with mild bleeding as the only early clue. Dr. Turner checks gum health at every exam and explains what he sees. For patients who need ongoing gum care, our Periodontal membership gives them a plan of their own.

Sleep is another piece of whole-body health that can start in the mouth. Loud snoring, a dry mouth in the morning or waking tired can all prompt a conversation at your next visit. We look at the jaw and airway alongside the teeth. That broader view is a core part of how our practice treats every patient.

Repair, Replace and Protect: A Dentist Near Mordecai

  • Restorative Dentistry

Crowns, bridges and fillings rebuild teeth worn by decades of use. We match each repair to your bite and the teeth around it.

  • Periodontics

Healthy gums keep teeth anchored for life. Our periodontal care treats infection, controls inflammation and protects the bone that holds each tooth.

  • Dental Implants

An implant replaces a lost tooth with a post that bonds to the jaw. It stands on its own, so neighboring teeth do not have to be reshaped.

  • Sleep Apnea Treatment

Snoring and restless sleep can trace back to the jaw and airway. We look for the warning signs and talk through treatment options with you.

  • Preventative Dentistry

Cleanings, exams and screenings form the base of every treatment plan. Neighbors who keep up with them tend to need far less repair work later.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is Cameron Village Dentistry from Mordecai, and how do I get there?

We are about 2.1 miles from Mordecai Historic Park, a drive of roughly 7 minutes. The route runs south on Wake Forest Road and North Blount Street, then west along Peace Street to Smallwood Drive. Residents who want a dentist near Mordecai can make the trip without touching the Beltline.

Is the Mordecai House really the oldest home in Raleigh?

It is the oldest house in Raleigh that still stands in its original location. Joel Lane built it around 1785 for his son Henry, and it was later enlarged in the Greek Revival style. Today it is part of a 3.2-acre city park on Mimosa Street, with grounds open from dawn to dusk.

When did the Mordecai Place neighborhood earn National Register status?

The Mordecai Place Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in February 1998. A boundary increase followed in 2000. The district counts 182 contributing buildings, which grew up after the plantation land was subdivided starting in 1916. Pilot Baptist Church is one of the notable buildings inside its bounds.

Can a broken crown be replaced in a single visit?

Often it can. Our same-day crowns are scanned, designed and placed during one appointment, so you leave with a finished tooth instead of a temporary. Dr. Turner first checks that the tooth underneath is healthy enough to support a new crown. For many patients, that saves a second trip across downtown.

What are your weekday hours for patients driving in from north of downtown?

We see patients Monday through Thursday from 8 AM to 4 PM and on Friday from 8 AM to 2 PM. The office is closed on weekends. Because Wake Forest Road and Blount Street feed straight into Peace Street, a morning visit fits neatly before work for many people in the area.
